Salman met IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi

Whatever Shahrukh Khan can do, I can do better seems to be superstar Salman Khan's thinking and credo. On Wednesday Salman met IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi and expressed his desire to bid for a franchise next January when the doors to enhance the number of franchisees will be thrown open.

The Governing Council has already stipulated that the bids will be put in next year for season 4 in 2011 when two more franchisees will be added.

Anil Ambani's ADAG is another entity which is extremely keen to bid for a franchise. Salman Khan is believed to have understood the procedure of bidding for the franchise next year. Modi also revealed that he and Salman have been in a dialogue on this subject for some time now, but a formal meeting happened only Wednesday. Modi also added that it was too early to say whether Salman was a serious player because the bids will only be put in next year. Actors SRK, Priety Zinta, Juhi Chawla and Shilp Shetty are either owners or co owners of different franchises presently. Salman could be the next.

The IPL is a heady cocktail of glamour and powerful business with several top flight industrialists like Mukesh Ambani, Vijay Mallya, Mohit Burman, N Srinivasan etc having teams. Anil Ambani has expressed his interest in acquiring a side when the gates are finally thrown open. Subroto Roy Sahara is another who wants a piece of the action.
